What is CSTEP Summer Bridge?
The CSTEP (Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program) Summer Bridge is a free, five-week program designed to help high school graduates make a smooth transition to college. Throughout the program, students can earn six college credits while participating in mini-seminars on a variety of exciting topics, including engineering, chemistry, art & visual performance, and agriculture. This program provides an excellent opportunity for students to get a head start on their college journey, make new friends, and build lasting relationships with faculty and staff. Participants also get to explore the campus, develop essential skills, and prepare for the demands of college-level coursework.
What Are the Benefits?
Students who take part in the CSTEP Summer Bridge program enjoy several benefits, including:
- Earn College Credits: Participants earn credits for both the College Orientation and Success Strategies (COS) course and the Survey of Mathematics (MATH 150) course. Tuition fees for these courses are waived for Summer Bridge students.
- Certificate of Completion: Upon successfully completing the program, each student will receive a personalized certificate.
- Stipend: Each student participant receives a stipend for their involvement in the program.
Program Highlights
- Build Connections: Students form meaningful relationships with peers, faculty, and staff that can support them throughout their college careers.
- Experience College Courses: Participants get a taste of college-level courses in subjects like Writing, Math, Chemistry, Biology, and English Composition.
- Develop Essential Skills: Students enhance important skills such as study techniques, personal wellness, financial literacy, time management, and leadership through interactive sessions.
- Get to Know the Campus: Participants will familiarize themselves with the campus and gain access to essential college resources such as Financial Aid and Academic Advising.
- Exciting Field Trips: The program includes five field trips that complement the students’ academic experiences.
Who Can Join?
This program is designed for students right out of High School who:
- Are interested in pursuing a career in STEM, health, or a licensed profession.
- Are enrolled at Monroe Community College (MCC) for the Fall semester.
- Can commit to attending the full five-week program.
- Have legal New York State residency.
Please Note: Transportation is not provided. Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from the program.
